Not to be a total prick or anything, but shouldn't rule 19 apply here?

19-Information is important, so always add it to your post (short explanation, screenshots if available). Only posting links wont help to others.

It grows tedious having to Google to try to figure out what someone is sharing, I'd imagine that is the reason for #19 in the rule book.

It looks the latest versions are stable enough and even with less bugs compared to the most stable 3.249 that many people still use. I found so many bugs in 3.249 that I cannot use it anymore. They are all fixed in the latest versions, support for the latest micros and the most important is reducing the code size. One big my project with 20k+ lines of code produce 76% ROM use for 18F8722 with bugs. The same code compiled with 4.104 is error free and it is only 66%, I saved over 13% from the flash for future improvement. So it is time to switch to the latest versions and to forget about "the most stable" 3.249  Smiley

Me too. I did professionally many many projects and products using v3.249 - it is stable and reliable version. The only disadvantage I have so far is that there is no support for the newest micros and only in this case I use the latest version.

My case is different. I test everything for my evaluation but when I have to make business I buy what I need. So I had to wait more than a hundred versions after version 4.0 to have a stable product which I plan to buy. And now it looks they are close to a good product. I knew most of the bugs in 3.249, I avoid them and it works. But when the program become bigger enough (in the last case 20k lines of code) I started to see some unpredictable returned values from functions and it is very hard to support a product when every new compilation may affect a code which was working before.

Hello!

Yesterday I tested 4.104 with 2 of my application:

1 - 16f877, lcd, rs232: 4.104 gain some rom & ram to 3.249

2 - 18f4550, Glcd, usb (use math.h):  4.104 go out of ROM, 3.249 compile using 95% ROM.

Had anyone compared 3.249  to 4.104  using  math.h  ?
