PicKit2 Clone

HELLO ALL,

I was/am interested in Cloneing the PICKIT2 and I came across a couple of interesting sites.

People can share some inputs on cloneing the PICKIT2 out here.

PICKIT2 is the best that is there in the market and with MICROCHIP shareing all information in parts, one has to just compile all information and make it.

PicKit2 is really the cheapest and one of the best ICSP on the market.
I didn't find any firmware changed to use the eeproms on the board. They say that we can keep there our software and with one touch of the key to program it. Do you know something about it?

I just red somewhere that it can be used to program the target without PC. But was confirmed but some DIY persons that it's working well without eeproms. (sorry i have no experience)

I've make a PICkit2 Lite base on blueroom schematic. In the file you'll found schematic, PCB and BOM in pdf format.
I've test it on MPLAB 8.00, and it works well. Be sure you've program the PIC with the correct firmware. You'll found the firmware in MPLAB installation directory.

This will only program 5 volt devices, you can buy a pickit2 plus 44-pin demo board for £13.23 plus vat in the uk. clone on ebay = £12.99 + £5 postage
I know which one is the best buy.

Which compiler ability to compile PICKit2 PC Software source ?
I try with Visual C++ but not success.

PICkit2 works only for microcontroller source file. You must use specific C compiler as HTSOFT, CCS, MikroC, Microchip C, ....
but not PC Compiler as Visual C, Borland....

The source project can be opened and modified in Microsoft Visual C# 2005.

Hi,

Some Pickit2 shipped without the bootloader. Infact the bootloader which initially came with version 2.0 was buggy. I have 3 Pickit2 so I think I can download the whole firmware including the bootloader and post.

One of the sickest thing about the programing software is the fuse setting. Any clone of the programing software available arround with a better fuse setting ability.

Wonder why the people @ Microchip could not think any better about the fuse setting GUI in their software.

Sorry about my stupid question... I have made a lot of searches at Mxip... but with Stand Alone keyword and I couldn't imagine a Programmer-to-go search.

But now I came back to ask another idea:

As I read Programming-to-go can only carry one HEX file at a time... but I'm wondering 3 or 4... then I have an idea, place 3 or 4 more EEPROMs stacked at the 2 original in PICKIT2, leaving one control pin to a selection switch (A3 for instance) then I can switch to a EEPROM back to download the HEX and after only need to chage the switch to desired bank...

What you guys think about this idea ? may I missing some detail or could it work ?

PS: Please, if anyone out there have a PICKIT2, there is room in the original box to stack some SO8 EEPROMs ??

This is a steal from here. if you read the text, it has limited function, it will only program @ 5volts.

to make it a full clone you do need the opamp or your fixed at low voltage programing.
